Terms of Service

Last updated: March 19, 2026

Acceptance of Terms

By using Safe Shores ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Nature of the Service

Safe Shores is an informational tool that displays publicly available weather and ocean data from U.S. government sources. The App is provided free of charge.

Critical Safety Disclaimer

Safe Shores does not guarantee your safety. No app can.

  • Ocean conditions change rapidly and unpredictably. Data shown in the App may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate.
  • The App supplements but does not replace lifeguard instructions, posted warning signs, local advisories, and your own judgment.
  • The absence of an alert does not mean conditions are safe.
  • If a lifeguard or official tells you to stay out of the water, stay out — regardless of what the App shows.
  • "Risk tier" and "alert level" are derived from historical data and NWS severity classifications. They are not predictive and do not account for all possible hazards.

Limitation of Liability

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INJURY, DEATH, LOSS, OR DAMAGE ARISING FROM USE OF OR RELIANCE ON INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE APP.

You assume all risk associated with ocean and beach activities. By using this App, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and the safety of those in your care.

Data Sources

All weather and ocean data is sourced from U.S. government APIs (NWS, NOAA CO-OPS, NDBC). The developer does not control, verify, or guarantee the accuracy or availability of this data. Service interruptions at the source will affect the App.

Intellectual Property

Safe Shores is open-source software. The source code is available on GitHub. Government data displayed in the App is in the public domain.

Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States of America.
